So yesterday my son and my dad went out together and my son ended up making a perfect 175 yard shot on a half rack 4 pt. I couldn't go as I had to take my daughter to an appointment. To say I was excited when I got the call was an understatement but part of me was bummed as this is the first animal that he has killed that I wasn't there to be a part of it and kind of coach him through the situation. I was happy he was with my dad who was the one who taught me and I know he was more than excited when I heard his voice on the phone. It just felt weird not being there, now he is still young and lord willing we have many more years of hunting together but this was a first that I didn't ever think about.
 
You had another obligation with your daughter, just be glad for your Dad having the experience,as I'm sure it was a thrilling experience for him! Congrats to your son on his first deer! Got any pics?
 
Yea my dad was pretty proud. It wasn't his first deer, it's actually his 3rd this year. It was just the first one where I wasn't there right beside him.

It's been broke for a while, I got pics back in October of him already broke off. This is the first time my dad has had to use it and he said he wouldn't trade it for anything. I bought it for him back in bow season but this is the first deer we've killed that there wasn't another adult to help load on his side by side. He said it was a piece of cake to drag out of the woods and then he just hooked it behind his side by side and took off.

I think I personally would be happier that the man who taught me got to share that moment with him. You will have many more opportunities to spend in the woods with him. Your father may not....
 
Trust me I couldn't of been happier for my son and I was extremely happy for my dad to share that moment with his grandson. I wouldn't have it any other way, I just hated to miss the moment.
 
There are two ways to look at it. Maybe your Dad needed that more than you? Congrats to you all!
