Someone just commented that the average price paid for binoculars probably was close to $1,000, probably higher.
Another said that they owned a pair that cost $1,400.
Curious as to how many of you have paid a grand for your binocs?
 
I've got a set of Stieners that I paid about $350 for. I've got a pair of Alpen 8x30 that I paid about $250 for and a pair of Ziess that were given to me.

Before these I never owned a pair over 200.

Not the best,but good enough for my hunting.
 
Steiner, Swar,Ziess, all make low end,and high end products.
I think the Swar, I own are about mid-grade in their line.
 
If I paid a grand for binocs they'd better have x-ray so I could see through trees or any other obstacle between me and the deer :D . I don't even have a $1,000 gun!!
 
I have a pair of Swaro SLC 10X42 that are over a grand... They are Nice.... very nice...

I have a pair of camo brunton epoch 10.5x43...I paid about a grand for them, but got a huge discount through the NTA. I think they retail for 1600 in the camo version and 1400 in the standard. I didn't think I would ever do that but boy are they nice.

I wont go into why, but i will say high end are worth their weight in gold when it comes to long days glassing (it has to do with focus fatigue more then anything)...if you are just using them in the woods for brief periods of time you don't need to spend more then 250.00 or so.
 
Bino's are pretty much the same ole song and dance as scopes...............they just hang around your neck.

I have not paid more than $200 for the ones I use, they suit my needs in the areas I hunt. My spotting scope on the other hand cost me dearly.

The Alpens that I have are the ones I use for hunting. I compared them side by side Swaros at Sportsman Warehouse and couldn't see that they were 5 times better than the Alpen's. Showed them to one of my hunting partners who is a Doctor and he did a side by side and also chose the Alpens. It's what ever floats your boat. My best friend lives in Idaho and when we elk hunt together he uses the cheapest pair of binos. He has some of those Bushnell autofocus binos that cost $49. He has a piece of rope that he uses for a strap. Tags out every year on whitetail,muleys and elk so I guess they work ok for him. :D :D
 
You don't have to have binos or even a scope to kill game.

I beat my Swar's all over the place,and tore the rubber eyecup.
Other than that, they are a tank.

All I have to do is not lose them.
 
I have a pair of Brunton Epoch's that retail for over $1400, but I paid nowhere near that price. I found a pair that was on sale for right at %50 off. I refuse to pay retail price for most things especially consumer products. There are some great deals out there.
 
I have a pair of pentax that retail for $850 and I found a guy going out of business, he sold them brand new with all paper work and lifetime warranty for $400. They are extremely clear and gather a ton of light!

I paid 2 something for mine in a combo with a Trophy 3x9x40 scope. Like you said good as I will ever need. I can not see there being a $1000 worth of difference between then and the swar's or others.
 
I bought a pair of Vortex Razors that cost $950. You will notice a huge difference at twilight and dusk. These are by far the best that I have used so far. I would compare them to Swarovski's.
 
I got a pair of Brunton Eterna's that are simply amazing.
Can't remember the exact prices but it seems like retail was close to or just over $400.
I walked in with very high hopes of buying some and the first thing I was was a sign that said "HUGE OPTICS CLEARANCE SALE".
They were clearanced due to being LAST YEAR'S CAMMO !!
Ended up with less than $250 in them. :D
 
I have to use a spotting scope, because my head is so big binoculars will not open up wide enough for me to see out of them.

About the same price as my Swar's. Comparing dollar to dollar most brands are all probably similar.

I agree with the other posters,that you don't have to spend a grand on binos to hunt.
I look at it as they are the last pair I have to buy.
Also, better glass does offer some advantages over low priced pairs. I have seen game in low light conditions I could have missed,and was able to get a clearer image of what the animal was in age, antlers, etc. There is a very noticable difference IMO. The Swars help me hunt.
 
Have to remember expensive is a relative term.

To me, 1,000 binos are a lot of money.
Not out of sight,but I don't throw a grand away every day.

To someone else, that is chump change,and they drop 1,800 on some fine glass in a heartbeat.

My point is that sometimes spending a little more than the cheapest is worth it.

Look at the rifle you are hunting with in a few weeks.
I bet you could kill the same buck with one half the price.
But, you own a nicer rifle.

Same deal IMO.
 
I would probably spend the money on Swarovski and Zeiss and everything else if money was no object, but it is. I have a pair of Leupold Wind River Mesas that work extremely well for my use.
 
I bought the pair I currently use for $37. Of course that was 40 some odd years ago and you got better glass for that amount of money then.

Binocular's are pretty much the same ole song and dance as scopes...............they just hang around your neck. Ido have a pair of Pentax 7X50 night glasses that were great for lookout guty in the U.S. Navy they cost 150.00 at the ships store on the USS Simon Lake AS-33 back in 1969. No telling what a pair would cost today , but they sure helped spot Elk in Colorado on those mountainsides.
 
I wish I had $1000 to spend on binos. Glass for the rifle comes first. The most I have spent is $50. I don't have allot of use for them where I hunt. I will probably spend a little more money whenever I can save up the money for a hunt out west. I'd like to get a pair of Nikon Monarchs.
