Big bass. Now is the time

The big bass are coming out of hiding. I have personally had three over 7 lbs in the past few weeks and one over 6. Everyone I know on the water has been pulling lunkers in. Buddy of mine pulled in a 12lb 11oz two weeks ago making it the third over 10 lbs in the past month for him. This is the first year I have ever fished through the fall and winter but I'm sure not disappointed. Was lucky enough to have my son with me today for this 7.74 lber.

I saw these kayak fishermen today while I was going squirrel hunting and then this evening one of them posted on the FB page for that lake a pic of a 9 lber he caught today. So I guess I need to start going after em sooner than I thought. I was gonna wait till march but maybe not now

They are so fat they look full of eggs. Eating any meal that's available. Painfully slow retrieve in most cases has done the trick for me.

Big fish in general were biting. Caught more drum and catfish on a jig but these were the biggest.

I had the biggest fish on I have ever hooked into today. I was throwing a jig on 20 lb fluorocarbon on a 7'9" mag heavy rod with my drag cranked down tight and couldn't do anything with it. I would get it up 3-4' and it would just run back to the bottom stripping drag. He finally got wrapped around something on the bottom and broke me off. Had to be a giant catfish I'm guessing.

yeah probably a big ole catfish. Reminds me when I lost a 30+ pound common carp on 6 lb test after a 1 hour battle. I actually saw that fish once but it went back down and got hung on something on the bottom.

I can't buy a smallmouth. My buddies catch them frequently even in the boat with me throwing the same lure but not me. I bet I have caught 3 maybe 4 total.
