Despite the devasting drought Texas has suffered through all of this year some of the bucks are holding up surprisingly well.

I think he is 4.5. Based on my record keeping, once he fills out this fall he will probably weigh between 170-190 lbs. I have no idea what he would weight right now.
 
thanks. I've heard that bucks in some areas of Texas max out around 150, but I've also seen 200+ bucks (on TV) in Texas. Those are 2 really good 8's.
 
The protein feed has increased the weights of our bucks dramatically. I wish the racks would have had the same results, lol. A 5.5 or 6.5 year old buck will weigh between 185-210 lbs before the rut now. Prior to the feed it was about 150-175 lbs. Last year we took our heaviest buck. It was a mature 6 point and he weighed in at 212 lbs. Once the rut starts the weights start to drop rapidly. I have a tight buck to doe ratio so these boys have to work pretty hard to have a little fun.

There are some parts of Texas where a mature buck is lucky to weigh 125 lbs at maturity.
 
20% protein feed with the right ratio of trace minerals. The recipe changes some throughout the year depending on range conditions or deer conditions. For example, I feed a post rut formula starting the middle of Jan.thru March that is more designed to get their bodies back up to speed before they drop their antlers and start growing their next set.

Im going to still that miracle grow comment if you dont mind. That is funny stuff.
