Bh209 & bullet question

Past 2 years has been 95 grain bh209 with a tc 240xtp. My blood trails have been horrible. Do you think I am using to much bh? Thought about dropping down to 85 and see. My other option is to stay at 95 and go with a 300 grain Barnes expander.

It's the XTP they are no good.
There are a lot better bullet out there to use.

Are you getting exit holes? I don't think slowing the bullet down is the answer but the Barnes would be a fine choice. I used to shoot XTPs but switched to Barnes so I didn't have to worry about feeding lead flakes to my children.

Most of the deer do have exit holes. 2 years ago I shot a deer and you could see a huge blood trail from my stand. Then I shot another deer and no blood spotted except the last few feet.

I think some of it is just bullet placement. I've been using 250gr Barnes bullets for as long as I've been shooting a muzzle loader. I've had blood trails a blind man could follow, and I've had trouble finding blood too. I've had deer drop where they stood, and I've had them run 100 yards but so far I haven't lost one yet with the Barnes bullets.

Agree. I've had great blood trails and not so great blood trails with the same load.
