I've used BH 209 powder in my Knight long range hunter for a couple years, and have had several misfires... The 209 primer fired, powder didn't. Anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking about going back to pyrodex 50 grain pellets.

What 209 primer are you using? Shotgun or MZ primer?
I wouldn't go back to using pyrodex, but would use triple 7.

BH209 says to use Federal or CCI mag primers. Federal were the hottest, then CCI Mag next. I used both and never had a misfire with BH in my Encore. Anytime I've heard of issues, wrong primers or the breech plug hole is too small or plugged.

i will trade you an unopened box of 777 (when i find it) and a new pack of pyrodex pellets from Wal-mart for your Blackhorn.
If your knight uses the disks you need to change your plug. The disks don't seal tight enough. Lehigh used to make a plug and maybe knight does now. It's been years since I've messed with a knight so I'm not up to speed on them.
I still use the #11 cap ...never a misfire using Pyrodex in my Knight MK 85. Just keep em clean

Breech plugs can build up heavy and hard carbon. I shoot an Omega and I have to use a drill bit and drill to clean the carbon out that is in the channel down to the pin hole. Use a small wire in the pin hole. I use Winchester W209 and it fires off everytime if the carbon has NOT build up.

I know with my CVA the manufactures say to only use the magnum 209 primers with BH powder.
Also, as posted, the breech plug has to be swapped out, and one with the proper orfice installed.

In my CVA it's been the most reliable setup by far, but I made sure to follow their recommendations.
Breech plugs with "liners" specifically designed for igniting BH 209 powder. I had to modify my BP in my old CVA Kodiak Magnum to shoot BH 209, or I would still be having ftf issues as well.
Lots of good advice already. Make sure you have a BH 209 breech plug. If you do make sure to clean with a drill bit for deposits. Use 209 Federal or CCI magnum primer.
Just cleaned on mine today. Do you know which drill bit size to use in BH 209 breech plug off the top of your head?
I believe 1/8 if I had to guess.
I'll check but that seems large after looking through breech plug today
It'll only go so far on the primer side.

I have a set of torch-tip cleaners that work to clean out the orfice or whatever the smallest part is called. It's more like the diameter a paper clip wire.

I've always used Federal 209 Magnum primers with BH 209, never had any issues.
What he said. You'd be surprised how fast crud builds up in the flame channel when using blackhorn.
