Best Meal in Memphis

Well, after about 2 1/2 years of hearing people brag about it, Mrs. TAFKAP and I finally had dinner at Flight. I have to say, it was the best meal I've ever paid for. We will most certainly be back. It's a nifty concept of "flights", rather than one set order. You can order individual entree-sized dishes, or pick and choose. It's three small sample-sized plates in a flight, so you can get a nice sampling of various things on the items.

I got the steak flight, which was a stuffed filet, a small elk chop, and the cut of the day, which was a bison strip. Mrs. TAFKAP got the seafood flight. Our appetizers were the crawfish dip and the carpaccio plate. If you're looking for a high-end meal in Memphis, I highly recommend that place.

Have eaten there as well and I agree the food was very good and it is a neat concept. We had a bad experience with the service though. Our reservation was at 7:00 on a saturday night, we left after 10:00 and didnt have dessert. We got some apologies from the waiting staff but nothing from a manager or an explanation. If we had not had guest with us I would have been gone long before ever getting the food. This was over a year ago so maybe just bad luck.

Huh....we were there at 7:20 for a 7:30 reservation. We were seated promptly, and the meal had a great flow to it. Out the door by 9:30. We will definitely be back.

We were out the door for $200. That was after a generous tip. Our bill was for $144, after tax. Service was spectacular, and I had a $200 gift card from AT&T. They could have it.

I had a cabernet flight for $15, and another glass for about $12.
Wife got (2) white flights (yeah, I know, it sounded funny to us, as well) for about $25.

I think my steak flight was $33, and her seafood flight was $31. I think appetizers totaled $25-$30 between the two of us. Beyond that, it was just tax & tip.

Place her in Nashville, "Flyte", does that for wine. Wife got a flyte and I got one. So we each got to sample 6 wines, then picked out the one we wanted a glass of to go with our meal.

Have you been to Alchemy down in Cooper/Young? It's a similar concept, but I actually like the food better than Flight's (more casual/eclectic) and it was more reasonable on the price.

No, never have. There is a list a mile long of places I have yet to try. Unfortunately, most of them don't hang around long enough for me to save the $$ to go there. Restaurant IRIS is next on the list. I've heard good stuff about Alchemy, though.
