Whats the best muzzleloading bullet on the market. I want superb accuracy and expansion from 50 yrds to 200 yrds. Xtp does good to 100yrds and the shockwave is accurate out to 2ooyrds but no expansion. Will shoot 3 777 pellets tc impact. any suggestions? I want the best of both worlds expansions and accuracy.

.45 or .50 caliber?

I'm not sure if they make the Impact in .45?

All guns are different, but if you want expansion in .50 I would go with the Barnes 250 TEZ in a Harvestor crush rib, start there.
They are accurate in mine.

Personally, I have found that the 405gr lead Powerbeltsnot the junk you find in walmart or bass pro, have the best of everythingexpansion, power, accuracy, and yes I have tried almost everything out there.

You somewhat compromize with a bullet and have to make a choice. Do you want great close range without failure or do want long range ability with good expansion. You almost certainly can't have both. Wiit that said here is my opinions for each....

Close out to 150 yards.... XTP 300gr not the MAG version, XTP 250gr but do not push it fast or it will fail, Barnes expander in any gr from 195 to 300gr

Long range and by long I mean 200 to 300 yards....300gr Barnes Originals, any pointy Parker bullets, Shockwave/SSTs in 300 gr. Reason for heavier bullet is it carries better at the longer range. 250s shoot faster initially but run out of steam quicker where 300s start out slower but hold onto velocity longer.

Barnes 290TMZ Expansion and 100percent weight retention and any range, boet tailed for more retained energy. u can have both

I respectfully disagree with all responses so far.

After researching and shooting, here is what I came up with.

260 grain

I was given 2 packs of the 50 cal. 260gr. Dead Centers last week by a guy I work with. He told me he couldn't get them to group out of his CVA. I personally haven't tried them.

If they wont shoot in your gun send them my way. :)

Shooting long distance semi-consistently requires a ton of practice, anal reloading procedures, chronograph, weighing charges, weighing bullets, sorting primers, and a scope with REPEATABLE elevation dials (+$500). Then throw some wind into things and you are screwed. Muzzleloading bullets have poor bc's and don't do well in wind.

Mind you, I am talking about a shot 200 yards or better. Touch 300 and you can be off a foot in a slight wind. Food for thought-

All the above assuming you have a gun worth a crap to begin with.

A $150 dollar muzzleloader is not the same as a $1500 muzzleloader. You truely get what you pay for.

IF your goal is LD muzzleloading, give the above some thought.

Hate to disagree but most of that PR bullet stuff is BS, back a few years ago i was shooting XTPs and 3 pyro or 3 777 pellets and getting good accuracy, but got tired of swabbing the bore every shot. So i was introduced to powerblobs(PR bullets term)and shot them for a few seasons, but wasn't satisfied with the accuracy and found PR on line who offered all sorts of solutions. Their first line of bs is that full powered 209 priners push the bullet off the powder before the powder is ignited. So they have a breech plug to sell you that takes a sawed off 22 hornet casingand the small rifle primer won't push the bullet off the powder, not a reloader? They have the variflame adapter kit, basically an empty 209 primer, that you push in and pick out small rifle primers. If this is so, why am I now getting clover leaf 100yd groups with full power primers in my Encore, Omega and lyman Mustang, getting great accuracy with BH209 and Barnes,T/C and Hornady sabots. The second line of BS is their sub base adapter, which is a plastic disc that goes under the base of the sabot to protect it, using this under any reasonable load I had trouble getting 6" groups at 100yds. Third line of BS is their sabot in a sabot, basically a 35cal bullet in a 45 cal sabot, inside a 50 cal sabot, good luck getting this to shoot! Fourth line of BS are their regular sabots, which actually shoots, but remember they're plain lead bullets with a polycarbonate tip. Fifth line of BS is that their bullets that are similiar to many other in profile etc. magically drop 3-4 inches less at 200yds. These are only products I have personal experience with. After all this I went back to 3 pellets and xtps in black sabots ang got good accuracy, thrn a week later they came out with easy glide shockwaves, which shoot great groups. Basically PR preys on people who are having accuracy problems and gives them bogus solutions, like i said my guns are shooting great now and i wasted a year at the range try PR bullets "solutions"

Oh yeah they're called dead centers, a pure lead 260 gr sabot disintegrates at inline velocites, barnes tmz and t=ez expand at 1000fps and get 100 percent weight retention at 2200fps. nuff said

First off, all I posted above was a direct link to Cecil's site. Not a middleman's site like was posted above me.

Secondly, I shot his bullets for several years and the 200-240 Dead Center bullets produced several dead dear and multiple 1/2 moa groups at 200 yards (that's 1" or less at 200 yards).

I do not shoot his stuff anymore because I found a better way to get my job done (and further).

However, by what you describe above, I can tell you know nothing about the topic at hand. You are just upset that you wasted money on stuff that did not work for you.

Just warning people about a line of BS. just about everything else I tried has worked, no matter what I did his stuff don't work. BY better way you mean anything but his? Like I said I'm getting sub moa groups at 100yds with nothing special involved.

Realistically u seem to know what ur doing, have u used the variflame adaptor, double sabot and sub base adapter?

I haven't used the PR bullet stuff, but the one thing I can tell you is that ewc can shoot the heck out of a muzzleloader. At 400 yards I would put my money on him and his smokepole against MOST people with a high-powered rifle.

How many bullets did you shoot before you decided these bullets were not right for your gun?

As they say, different strokes for different folks.
I like the Barnes bullets, but they don't group as well for me as the Dead Centers. And all the Barnes versions I've tried have been very hard to load (in the current two muzzleloaders I'm using), not a deal-breaker, but something I don't like.

I've had similar results, multiple sub-1.5 moa groups at 200 yards (that's 3" or less groups at 200 yards, and I'm happy with that). Sub 1 moa at 100.

I'm still shooting the 260 gr Dead Centers simply because they group tighter than anything else I've tried. I'm not into long-range anything like ewc, but can say I'm confident in those 260 gr Dead Centers out to 200 yards if it's not too windy. During the past couple years, I've dropped five consecutive deer with them (with 5 total shots fired while hunting), no misses, no wounded deer, just 5 deer fired upon and 5 deer recovered within a few yards of where they were standing when hit. Three were adult does, two were 3 1/2 or older bucks.

And other than a PowerBelt (which may be the absolute sorriest long-range bullet), those Dead Centers are easier to load than anything I've ever used in any muzzleloader.
