I've been trying to take my nephew on a deer hunt for a while now. He started showing interest last year but with everyone's different schedules, it's difficult to arrange. I finally got to take him on Black Friday. We had a buck come through early that morning but he was cruising and never stopped long enough for a shot. Around 830 this doe came out into a trail and he saw her before I did. I think I was more nervous than he was, but he dropped her where she stood with the little .223. It was a hunt I won't forget. I'm about to grill a backstrap to add to our family's Thanksgiving dinner today.

Congrats to him on the doe. How far was the shot? And that's a good looking rifle, what is it?

Rifle is a Mossberg MVP series (predator version I think). Chambered in 5.56. I borrowed it from my best friend for this hunt. He had the barrel threaded and added the muzzle break. I am NOT a fan of mossberg shotguns, but I have been very pleased with this rifle.

Shooting Barnes 55 gn Vortex bullets. A little pricey but good. Shot her 98 yards.

Congratulations to your nephew on his great shot and deer! And, thank you for getting him out there. The youngsters are the future of the sport, and folks like you taking the time to introduce the port to them are the key. Great job to both of you!
