I recently brought an old mauser rifle to my gunsmith to have it re crowned and drilled and tapped for a scope, but he called me last night to inform me that when he put it in the fixture he noticed the barrel was bent. So looks like i will be having a new barrel put on. I think who ever had it before me may have run over it lol.

Uh-oh. I've always heard jokes about bent barrels, never seen one until now.
Are replacement barrels easy to find for your gun?
supposedly they are but he said he can put any caliber on it if we couldn't find the same one. I love the old Mauser actions and this particular one is smoother from years of use which will make a slick operating gun once it's done. also the bolt has already been welded for scope so i figured i'd continue the build.

The easiest thing to do is rebarrel with anything with a .473" diameter Rim that's your standard 30-06 size cartridge head. Better have him make sure the barrel is actually bent and not screwed in crooked as in Cross threaded. I have seen two model 48 Mausers, Yugo Mausers that were messed up that way.
