I'm pretty new to the board and turkey hunting and I've spent a couple seasons trying to teach myself how to turkey hunt. This morning I set up in a creek bottom well before daylight had two gobblers hammering about 6:45 about 75 yards to my right. One bird would cut me off when I was doing some tree calls so I shut up and figured he would pitch down and find me. To my suprise he pitch out and headed the other direction. I sat till about 8:30 and had 3 hens fly down into the bottom. Once they moved out I never heard another peep. Had to leave a little early today for my sons baseball game but My question is tomorrow do I try to move closer into the gobblers roost tree or do I call more. Thanks for the help in advance. Hoping to finally get this monkey off my back.
 
Sounds like you might have been to close if the hens didn't fly down till 8:30 they prob knew you were there.
 
As difficult as it may be, next time try not calling until his feet hit the ground. In nature, the hen usually goes to the gobbler vs. other way around. Often, the more you call to a bird on the limb the longer he stays up there waiting on you to go to him. They often do just exactly as you saw this morning...gobbling as they go away hoping the mystery hen will follow.

I agree with both replies. Sounds like you were too close this early in the season (no leaves), and try not to call when he is still in the tree.
 
I'm one of the few that will call while in the tree of the set up allows it. Having said that I don't Yelp or anything at them but I will do a fly down cackle and a wing beat (I have a real wing I keep in my vest I use but a hat will work)

If I hear hens though especially if there are more then 1 hen then I won't even bother.

REN touched on calling while he's still up a tree but I'll add, if he has hens forget about calling HIM off the limb...talk with the girls. Just a few real soft tree calls can convince them to pitch down on your side of the tree and tommy will often follow when he sees them fly down.
