I've really been wanting to get into doing more small game hunting... Rabbit and squirrel. What are the best ways to hunt these? Without a dog that is... Any ideas or suggestions are welcome cause I really don't know any method for hunting these animals besides plucking them off from my deck lol.
 
we have some of the best squirrel in the country right here, as well as some of the most liberal limits found anywhere. Squirrels are transitioning from hickories to oaks right now. Get a very accurate 22 lr with good optics and get after em. I have killed 48 in the last week. Check out the threads in the small game forum and good luck and straight shootin
 
I love to squirrel hunt, but my wife won't let em be cooked in the house. I've got to find someone to give them to. I can't imagine trying to give 48 away.
 
So is it more of a just get out and look for em thing I take it? How long do you sit at a tree to see if there gonna come out?
 
For squirrels, find a logging road (if possible) and just ease along in the early morning or late afternoon.

Listen for "stuff" falling. That will often give away squirrels cutting. You can also listen for leaves shaking, which happens when they jump to a tree branch. Ease into position and try for a shot.

You will have more success using a shotgun, but you will become a better "hunter" using a .22.

Camo is a must also, including gloves and maybe even a facemask.

For rabbitts walk along field edges or grown up fields and kick every piece of brush or log or tree that is laying on the ground. I have killed lots of rabbitts hunting this way. Be sure to have your gun up and ready when you kick the brush pile(they are fast little suckers).

Also be sure to have a pair of briar chaps or pants on or you will rip your pants to threads walking through briars and thorns.

You got some real good advice above. Just get your gun and get out in the woods that have hickory and oak. Get out there at first light and don't let 'em know your there. You'll probably start hearing and seeing squirrels. After a few times, out, you'll get the hang of it and will be bagging squirrels. Patience and stealth are the key to squirrel hunting.
