You wouldn't believe how many people ride around with the muzzle pointed in the floorboard of their vehicle and their rifles crown looks like that one.

That crown is from a Remington. I was given the task of getting a load done for a guy and it was left to me to get the rifle up to snuff. It was a 300 Win Mag and it shot IMR4350 and 150 Nosler Accubonds into a .6xx" group.

Tiny, I bought a NECO Fire Lapping kit many moons ago and couldn`t bring myself to run the coated bullets down the bore. I used the kit along with a bronze ball ended muzzle lap from Brownells. I ordered the one without handle and chuck it in a Dewalt drill and run it slow in a circular motion. I own 3 of those muzzle laps and can polish from .22 to .50 caliber bores.

I've seen those kits at Brownells and been thinking of getting one, now I might just go ahead and get one.

I had it recrowned at a gunsmith (no real shortening involved)and I also followed a barrel break-in procedure of running a tight patch with Remington bore cleaner 10 times, followed by a dry patch 10 times, then repeat the series 10 times, for a total of 200 barrel passes.

After that it's been incredibly consistent. I was test firing some handloads with 4 different charges, and if you superimposed all the targets I don't think the group would be 2". Most groups were sub MOA.

That nick in the muzzle, though small, was deep and right on on of the lands.

Gun is a Ruger M77 Compact, 16.5" barrel, in 260 REM.
