been wanting this for a long time, pics

been wanting to put together a paper-punch n hunt 308 for a while. when i found that i wasn't gonna have to pay in on taxes i sold my old cheap rem 770 243 and let it fly.

It started with a good ebay deal on the scope then...
remington 700 sps varmint 308
EGW HD 20 MOA rail
Burris tactical rings (low)
Bell & Carlson A3 light tactical stock
Grove Tec flush cup swivel mounts
Tab sling
old pivot bipod i've had
USO rail mount anti cant
The scope is a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42 mil dot w/sunshade

last is a little rattle can work and TA DA.

I shot it with the factory stock a few times and got a couple 1" groups shooting off a dog food bag. hopefully sunday i'll get to go re zero and see what happens.

the uso anti cant won't fold in with the cover on it. Dang it. i'll just leave the cover off.

once i get it zeroed again i've got to stretch it out and try some 500yd plus shots. i've never shot past 500. i'm getting gitty thinkin about it.

i've got a feild on rocky point here putnam that i can get 500ish yds i hope to try out soon but it's rough between point a & b. A spotting scope would make life easier and is on my want list but toy funds are low now.

shooting prone off the bipod at 100yds. i know i flinched a little on #3 in both groups. i think i can get it to .5"-.75" groups next time. hopefully soon.

Did you bed the action in the new stock and have you done any trigger work on it? You might also consider a Tubbs or a Callahan light weight firing pin and spring combo to quicken the lock time.

I have a SPS Tactical in .223 that shoots .75" groups consistently and a few groups in the .3" to .5" here and there. It still has the pos factory Hogue stock on it.

Not bad, a couple touching. She probably just needs to be broke in a little.
My Browning took over 100 rounds before she settled down. For a wile I was disappointed.
Now It's shooting like this>4 rounds @100

I just got my repaired VX11 4x12 AO lupey back(tight selector)& looking forward to shooting my B 270 WSM again. Leupold is so good to me in many ways :grin:

your groups are only as good as your rest,,it is very hard to shoot one hole groups off a bipod and no rear rest,,

havn't bedded it yet but it's got it coming. i did some adjusting on the factory trigger. not just the pull weight screw that's in the trigger i tinkered with front travel screw (i think that's what it's called, couldn't the rear sear screw loose to save my life. the trigger feels good.
i think the problem is mainly myself, i ain't afraid to admit it. the rifle only has about 50 shots through it. i've got a few house projects to finish before do much else to it other than shoot it. i hope to post some better results soon.
i had a buddy and his 4 year old son that decided he had to poop after my 1st 3 shots with me that day.

I just shoot off my home made sand bags at the bench. One tall one forward, and one back. I try to keep it real AMAP. I also practice standing freehand, and kneeling (my most used & favorite) a lot.

I guess will have to try a the good bags some time Mr.big.

funny you mention "good bags" i've used 50 lb dog food bags before. You can sort of mold them how you want it.

well i got to play the other day and got the results i wanted.
5 shot groups shooting factory loaded hornady 168 gr amax match. using the dog food bag rest mentioned earlier.

the range mowed out a strip in the hay field.

the results
5 shots .75" at 100 and 1.8" at 200

lookin forward to another nice day to play. i got a box of the new hornady 178gr bthp to try out.
when mowin season dies down i'm gonna have to get into reloading.
