Today my son and I were taking turns with a Taurus pump .22 rimfire carbine shooting at some floating wood chips. He handed the rifle to me and when I shot the report was 2-3x normal, grit and debris flew into my face and I got a small cut on my trigger finger from a piece of brass I reckon. Smoke was coming out of the action. I pumped it open and extracted a split case with half the case split around the circumference of the rim/case junction. The case head was split and somewhat mangled but I can still see the Rem 'U' on the case head. I guess it had a double charge or whatever. I actually had a bunch of different brands of ammo that I grabbed out of a dish that we use for plinking. At any rate I and rifle are undamaged. I did have on glasses thankfully.
My son did not have on shooting glasses which is my fault.
It just goes to show what can happen at any time. We should never shoot without proper protection as '****' happens. Just a reminder to be careful and watch out for those 'Golden Bullets'!! At least it can't be classified as a 'reloading error' which the manufacturers or prone to do. Plateau Hunter
