I want a 6.5 Rem Varmint contour bbl 21 inches long,,probablly need an 8 twist,,lookin to make a long action 260 throated for 140 grn AMax ,SMK ,Berger, vld type bullets, seated with the base of the bullet seated even with the bottom of the neck,,

who would you get the bbl from??

with the bullet seated out do you think 2800 is feasible with 140`s or should I look at the 123 Sierra,,

lookin for the most practical way to get a super accurate 500 yard weapon capable of sustained fire without melting the bbl in 10 shots, would like some omph left when the bullet gets to the 500 yard mark also,,

I just purchased a Hart for a build just because I've had good luck out of my hvy Hart barrel. I've also heard good things out of Kreiger barrels. Are you stuck on a .260? The next rifle build I do is probaly going to be a 6.5-284.

I would do what you are doing, or a 6.5-06 would be OK as well. Heck a 308 or 30-06 with the right bullets would do the trick as well, and brass is a little easier to come by. I understand the 260 thing though, I do like the 6.5s.

the 140 gr 6.5 bullets have bc`s higher than 200 gr 308`s,,I figure you can get a .550 bc 6.5 bullet to 2800 with a lot less powder than a 30 cal .550 bc bullet,,

the 6.5-284 eats more powder than I am wanting,,for the sustained fire thing,,I am open for 6.5 BR recomendations also,,how fast would the br case push the 123 sierra from a 21 inch bbl

Mike Rock, Obermeyer, Bartlein are supposed to be the best. But I've heard nothing but good things about Kriegers and Liljas' as well.

Heck, even Pacnor isn't too bad... and you can send them your donor action and they'll true it and install the barrel for $300 or so.

I don't think it's even a remote possibility with a 21" barrel...

Very possible with a 6.5x284, though. Could also consider a 6.5-06 in that velocity range.

I wouldn't worry about burning up the barrel with the bigger 6.5's unless you really heat them up. Even then, if you go with a slightly longer shank and longer barrel, you'll have room to set it back for a relatively new throat pretty cheap.

I have 3 Lilja's and am perfectly happy with them. I also have one PacNor that shoots great too.

I also hear good things about Mike Rock.

Hey I just looked it up and Krieger makes a 5R cut now.
Go for this cut if u can......
Accuracy and ease of cleaning is exceptional IMO.
