Bass fishing,what's your thing?

Top water and crankbaits is what I grew up on and they are still fun, but you have not lived till you've got a 4lb smallmouth on 6lb line. Give me a light spinning rod, some 1/8 oz hair jigs with a trailer and I'm happy as a babymomma on check day.

I hear that. I lake fish in the winter and river fish in the summer. No way to fish a jig in moving water.

Ok..Ok.. no need to get pissed. :o I'll just say I haven't had any luck fishing a jig the way I like to fish them when theirs a couple generators running. We are moving down the river at a pretty good clip. Crankbait time.

Depends on where, when, weather, water clarity, etc etc etc.

My favorite is Tennessee River backwaters early spring with buzz baits, frogs, and poppers. If I had to pick one bait that caught me the most fish it would be a 7" power worm. A very close 2nd would be a jig.... Actually I would say nearly every time I have won big fish it came on a jig....

Cast downstream and work it till it is upstream of you. Most jig hits are made on the fall or the first couple hops. Nothing will pull a fish off of structure better than a jig IMO.

I'm not ticked off... just saying it's impossible isn't true. Jigs come in a lot of different weights. Getting them down is very easy. I fish them and texas rig a lot... even when they are flowing strong. I fished both yesteday with 2 or more running on the Holston.

I catch smallmouth any way possible, it all depends on the lake, river, or stream, and the time of year. On Dale Hollow I have caught fish on top water, grubs, swimbaits, float n fly, flukes, senkos, hair jigs, football jigs, Roundhead jigs, peanut jigs, jerkbaits, blade baits, spinnerbaits, Shaky heads, tail spinners, drop shots, and split shot rigs. That's just Dale Hollow. I'm just at home in knee deep current in a stream you can cast across. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is no magic method, you have to able to adapt to what they want to hit. If I HAD to pick 1 bait for all my fishing, it would be a toss up between a 4-5" grub and a jig.

I love river fishing! Its hard to pick one bait but i always have a buzzbait, spinnerbait, crankbait, plastic craw or lizard and a jig tied on spring through fall. Yes you can fish a jig in current very easily. I prefer a football head but i prefer it in deep dead water during the winter. But will not hesitate to throw it on a shoal in fast moving water. Im not interested in light line fishing. The current and cover i fish will only end up with a lost fish. 14# fluorocarbon and 20# braid is what i use. Each year is different for me. 3 yrs ago it was a plastic lizard. 2 yrs ago it was a perch/bream colored square bill. Last year was a chatreuse black back square bill. But from spring through fall, the best fish come on a buzzbait. The more shallow it is, the better for me.

Spinnerbait! In the grass, weeds, standing timber, bouncing off rocks, pretty much wherever. Shoot, I've even caught trout in a crick on a baby bushwhacker....

Flipping heavy cover in colored water is my favorite way also except I use 30 lb line
