Base layers Merino Wool?

Im canning the UA base layers this year for hunting. I cant get the stinch out of the pits. I hear merino wool is the stuff...

Opinions on best bang for the buck? Is there a certain weight to get that works better than others?

I posted in hunting gear but it doesnt get much traffic.

I wear the Redram by Icebreakers that I bought from STP. Even without the 30% off, it's by far the best deal out there.

The Redram merino boxers are sweeeeet. I implemented a total underwear replacement with those. I like their t-shirts, too.

I never in a million years thought I would wear a pair of wool boxers until a bought 2 pairs for an elk hunt. After 10 days with no shower, they had minimal stink. Awesome stuff. I've never tried the T, but may have to.
 
SHame we can't get hold of the merino-possum fur combo clothes made in New Zealand. Yes, they have some kind of possum running amok, this is no joke. It is incredibly expensive, I know, the possums won't hold still, seriously, I tried on a pair of gloves and fell in immediate love. Divorce soon followed, those gloves were over 60 bucks. A shirt was nearly 300. This was 10 years ago. Since I know absolutely no one believes me about merino-possum blend, here's a link I know will get a zillion hits.

geez.... I once had a helmet made from a possum and it didn't cost any where near 300 bucks
 
I bought a set of Smartwool from STP before last season and that stuff is great.

One of the hosieries down in Cleveland, off Michigan Ave, used to manufacture some Smartwool stuff and would sell factory closeouts for pennies on the dollar. I've probably got 30 pairs of socks from them and have not spent more than $50. I'm not sure if they're still in business or not. It's been years since I've been down there.
 
I have the merino boxers and the winter base layers and they are great. I also have the silk base layers and they are top notch also.
