Barrel Porting ?

Can a 26 inch heavy barrel in 308 be ported? If so, anyone in the Nashville area do this kind of work?

Why would you want to port/ muzzle break a .308? I wouldn't think the recoil would be an issue. The added muzzle blast wouldn't be worth it to me with the .308

on a tactical type 308 where you need to see where you hit a brake is very useful,,and while a 308 isnt bad 8-10 times,,but if you like to shoot steel targets and fire a couple hundred rounds a day it gets old.

and I would advise a brake also instead of porting

I know around hear a muzzle break install runs about $125. You can also have the gunsmith make a thread cover in case you wanted to remove the brake for some reason, like to avoid the added muzzleblast when hunting.

Agree with everyone above... don't get it ported. If you want to eliminate 65% of the recoil, get a removable muzzle brake with thread protector. Some of the newer brakes are more efficient (holland side discharge type, etc), but must be timed/aligned properly, and many gunsmiths don't do a good job with this.

Expect to pay $125-150 for the threading with protector, and another $50-$80 for the brake itself.
