Cumberland county, our own property, 23 yard broadside shot, 7:10 am today. He was sniffing the ground headed to a doe almost in front of me. Wife and I both decided not to shoot anything smaller than a 8 point till late in rifle season and we both passed up numerous does, a spike and 6 point yesterday. He has 10 points, not a lot of mass. We been watching him for 3 months and targeted him as a shooter. He left a blood trail Stevie Wonder could of followed. Ran about 45 yards, stopped, did a small circle and collapsed. Weighed 188 pounds on the scale (before gutting). After I shot, the doe stood there and watched him run away.
Best of luck to the rest of you. We are seeing more deer this year than ever before.

Congrats! I switched to Barnes in my muzzleloader last year after using Hornady XTP with no or poor blood trails. The Barnes are amazing and lay down a great blood trail. Excellent accuracy to boot.

Agreed, and this year we switched to the Harvestor sabots. Way easier to load with just as good if not better accuracy.
 
Good looking buck! Which Barnes bullet are you using? I am shooting the TMZ boatail with a crush rib harvester sabot but haven't shot anything with them yet.

250 grain flat base. It was a heart shot, complete penetration, no wonder he bled out so fast.
 
I shot a doe with a Barnes this morning. Didn't find a drop of blood except where she died. Hard quartering to me shot. Squarely into front shoulder, out/in again right behind shoulder (large hole) and out bottom/center of belly. She ran maybe 50 yds.

I really think the lack of blood was due to my shot angle choice. Bullet killed her quickly as it should. Still anxious to shoot one broad sided to see what kind of blood trail I get.

Shot an 8 point with a 290 grain flat base Barnes yesterday. Good shot placement and he ran 120 yards or so. Probably the heaviest blood trail I've ever seen though. Once I got the hide off the exit side was a big enough hole to put all 4 fingers in. I couldn't believe he made it that far with that kind of damage. He did spook a little when he saw me moving my gun and was on full alert when I shot. They are fantastic bullets though. Never not had a pass through.

Ill second that on the Barnes! The Deer I shot Sat. was by far the biggest body I have ever taken. Shot at 92 yds and he took it 60 yds before he crashed. Had great blood and a complete pass through.
