Ran the numbers on my 22-250 through serveral ballistic calculators and all give me close to the same info, with my info the bullet should drop about 28" @ 450 yards. But when I shot it in I had to dail up 12 M.O.A wich is about 54". I am shooting up hill a little but I don't know the angle or if would affect it that much. I have lazed the target several times, always at 451 yards. Any ideas on this? ? ? ?

something you are entering is wrong,,most of the time the calculators are really close if you feed them correct info..

Unless you chrono your particular rifle and ammo you will not be entering in accurate enough info.
 
scope height really messes with it big time,,most default to 1.5 inches but if it is say 2.25 it will be way off at 450,,

lookin at the bullet drop line instead of the bullet path line will mess you up also..

bullet drop is how much the bullet will drop coming straight out the bbl.

bullet path will be how much the bullet will drop from it`s zeroed range..

Dittos to both and I add this Temp at time of the test.
 
chrno vel-3675 fps,b.c .242,bullet weight 50gr,zeroed at 100 yards,scope height 1.9",temp 65, altitude 1600', ????????????? checked it all 20 times. maybe i'm still missing something. my chrno may be wrong, everthing i have ever checked with it is 200 to 300 fps slower than what the load data shows.
 
looking at rem site that would be close if you zeroed at 250 not 100,i think it stated 30" & change at 500y
 
I would run the same load in the same rifle over a different chrony. You should already know...load data is for folks who don't run their bullets over a chronograph
 
the velocity would have to be wrong by 1000fps to get the drop i'm getting at 450 yards. don't have access to another chrony. The ballistic charts are pretty close on my .30 cal rifles.
 
get it zeroed dead on at 100 yards,,put your target at 450 yards 5-6 feet high with enough newspaper or something below the target and shoot at 450 without touching the scope with a 100 yard zero and see how much it drops,,,

you are dialing in twice as much dope as you need to get there,,maybe something wrong with the scope???
 
I was thinking the scope also. I can shoot at 100 yards then dail up to 450 yd then back down to 100 yd back and forth and hit every time. This is a new scope on this gun.
 
Do you have a 1/8 MOA click scope and you're coming up like it's 1/4 MOA per click?

Sounds silly, but could be an easy mistake if you're counting clicks instead of just dialing the MOA's.

A STEEP hill would require fewer MOA's, not more, so that's not the issue.
 
FYI. found the problem was the scope. The turrent is marked 1/4" but the scope is really 1/8" per click.Put up a chart @100 yards and it took 2 MOA marked on the turrent to move up 1 " or 8 clicks. Called the manufacture and they said by their records, off the model number, it should be a 1/8 " scope. How it ended up with 1/4 click knobs no one knows. Thanks for all the help.
 
it is a older millet buckmark varmint scope. Made in china. I think i bought it on the old TN deer classfied but have not had time to look at my paperwork. Scope is clear, and tracks good. Thanks for all the help.
