So my uncle asked his game warden friend in Grundy county about the ruling on bait. Game warden told him some of the details but the biggest detail was TWRA is really considering to allow bait in the CWD zones! I know this is he said she said stuff and May not amount to a hill of beans, but if True isn't this the death blow to TN whitetails? The same organization that will allow baiting in CWD zones has been telling us for years it spreads disease! I hope it's not true, but it's all about the $$.

They may be forced to by the politicians and politically connected

There may be some pressure behind the scenes to legalize it in the CWD counties

Yes the law technically allows the TWRA to enact a rule to prohibit bait in those counties but somebody somewhere in TN wants baiting of deer and it got done

I believe the CWD exemption was just put in the law to gain votes in the legislature and make the law look "good" and "responsible". It was never intended to be actually used once the law passed.

Politicians appoint/approve TWRA commissioners and voters elect the politicians

Other states have CWD and bait but they somehow continue to have deer…

You mean Texas?

Texas is totally different than any other state

Pretty much all other states except NC where I live have outlawed baiting for deer in CWD areas?

And NC doesn't have the deer numbers we used to, like back in the 1990s

Thats on purpose though (herd reduction). Nothing to do with CWD

CWD is every real and I'D say let idiots do what they do! Eat infected animals and face the consequences if it spreads to them or all the animals they have in that area.

I don't believe CWD is going to kill all the deer, with our without baiting. But I think it will reduce the number of deer and affect the age structure of the herd.

Would I knowingly eat a CWD infected deer? Probably not. But would I eat deer from a CWD area? Sure. The risk isn't zero, but statistically it's about as close to zero as you can get.

I agree with this. CWD is a serious threat to our deer herds. However, I also think nothing we humans can do is going to help measurably. We will have to let Nature work it out, just like it's been doing for millions of years.

This is exactly how I have felt about it for awhile now...

CWD is so real and dangerous that the TWRA went from "kill them all before they die" and saying that baiting can spread the disease to "Yea baiting is ok in CWD areas as long as you buy the permit"? Really makes you question things.
TWRA did not request this.

Glad to see im not the only one with trust issues !!!

I haven't seen the first thing out of twra only hearsay, Anybody have real info as put out by twra? talk is cheap but I would have never guessed they wouldn't fight baiting. Loosing a lot of respect from them if they are letting this through without push back.

Agreed. I don't think for a second they were the ones pushing for this, but not fighting against it is a true black mark.

Yeah I know what you mean. Things haven't been looking so great lately on the different WMA's I've visited in the past 3-4 years.
I know everyone has been dealing with budget constraints and that's more than likely a huge reason. I do however like the idea of them asking the public for some help. I believe it was on one of the middle Tn. WMA that reached out for help. I know if others did they would receive a lot help too.

Only real idiot I see in this comment is you. Are you even in a CWD area? Do you even have a dog in this fight? If you're in the CWD area and eat deer then you've probably ate some before like most of us that live and hunt in the CWD zone have eaten. If you are in the CWD area then if you've killed any deer then you're probably in that idiot pool that you're bad mouthing. Do me a favor and name someone you know that's been infected by CWD. I'm sure you must know someone as much you're mouthing!
