My retired game warden client texted me that the bait bill won't be effective until August 2026 (see attached).

Not a fan, but thanks for sharing. I'll be anxious to see if their projections for additional revenue pan out. Time will tell.
My local gw said they were trying to get it on the June commission meeting, dont want to miss a years worth of revenue
Doesn't look like projections take into consideration CWD counties.

If that extra 6.5 million dollars doesn't go to purchasing more public land for the growing numbers of hunters to hunt on then I'll be very disappointed.

What about all the CWD and how bait piles and mineral piles give a congregation spot for deer and makes the disease spread faster. Or since money has to be paid and that automatically stops the spread. Or was it all just horse shnitt to begin with. Gotta be one way or the other in my mind.
Get prepared to be disappointed, if their budget is already short 30 million, they aint gonna be buying land

Never mind the bureaucrats are creating an environment of more baiting than ever before. It's just that most baiters will not buy a permit.
Those baiting don't worry about it being illegal to bait now, so why should they worry about even less later? So what if it's illegal to bait without a permit?

You're probably right. I want to see as soon as season is underway where they're at.
I only bait for hogs, so I'm good, don't need a permit.
75% of the hunters will buy it. 25% will admit they did. At least for a while.

How in the world can their budget be short $30 million with the increase in hunters over the years - especially in Tennessee with so many people moving in, and we know some percentage of all the newcomers hunt? So TWRA's income has to have grown quite a bit over the last few years.
All i know is they asked the state for an extra 30 and only got five, so they're raising license 28 percent and now a baiting bill magicaly appeared and got passed for more money. Wasteful spending (and not on habitat improvements) is how their short

I'd like to see TWRA funds expended to date (last 6 years) on "all things" CWD. FOIA request would likely bring it to light. I recently read where FOIA request showed Missouri Department of Conservation has spent $19.7M on CWD over last three (3) years, so roughly $6.5M annually.

Like all government agencies if you don't spend all the allotted money you don't get it next year. Add that to no accountability, no oversight, mis management of funds and poor decision making should answer alot of questions.

I think the delay is as much to do with the potential punishment for baiting without the permit.
The same guy that told me it was going to pass 10 days prior said some stiff punishment is being discussed.
