I was shooting at my bag target tonight and heard a louder than normal punch when my arrow hit. I pulled out the arrow and there was a puff of material that popped out of the other side. I haven't had this Yellow Jacket very long, but I was hitting in that same spot several times tonight. Is this to be expected with bag targets?
 
I blew through my YJ bag quickly. You can lay it down and walk on it to even it back out and make it last longer.

I've been using a Morrell Outdoor Range bag for over a year and haven't poked an arrow through it yet. It takes a LOT of arrows too.

I took it inside and me and my two year old boy jumped on it, walked on it, punched it, and had alot of fun doing it too. It has smoothed out except for that piece of material poofed out, but oh well, it has a way to go to get pass throughs.
 
Just push the material back in and keep shooting I have one morrell that I have had for five years or more. I put a new bag on it and kept shooting. I usually walk on mine to flatten it out after every practice.
 
I built a frame for my bag target today. The timbers are set about 20" deep in concrete. I had a frame for it that was about 2yrs old originally built for the smaller YJ bag. It worked OK with this bigger bag for the last year, but it got to be too much for it. I put several coats of outdoor paint on it to help prevent rot.

Along with what everyone else has said, make sure you dont just shoot one side. Shoot both sides. This helps too.

That is what I have been doing now. I shoot both sides and walk on it after a session. I was able to shoot an arrow accurately into the material that was sticking out, which drove it right back in.

That is sweet JayMc, I like how the target is up off the ground.
 
Go to Richard's and buy the 29.00 bag 32x32 inches had for year and half i shoot three days a week no problem. Just turn the bag 180 degrees after a couple of sessions.

The BPS Red Head bag is nice as well.
 
May also want to consider a rag bag.You fill it with old clothes.Take the metal zippers and metal buttons off first.Stuff them in and shoot.
