Bad start so far

Got out to the lease about the time I wanted to and start heading to the holler I wanted to hunt. Well I passed by one of my early season stands and my camera that is close to it has been stolen. I keep headed to the holler and get set up. I'm set up and ready to go about 45 minutes before light. Well first light hits and a side by side pulls up about 10 yards from me. The guy then proceeds to tell me he's hunting here anyways because his stand is here. What ever happened to etiquette? So now he's sitting smack dab in the center of the holler I'm hunting, and I can't move because this is my only spot for this wind. Beats being at work, I guess.

Wow. Do the guys on your lease not have any rules about hunting the same areas? Every lease I've ever been on has a courtesy rule that if someone got there before you did, you move on...regardless of "your stand" placement.
This is also why I don't hunt weekends on my leases any more. Too many "jack-wagons" in the woods who think they are hunters.

There aren't many rules here. Honestly I just thought that was an unspoken rule. The only two rules I know of are an antler restriction and we can't cut the trees, but from what I've been told many don't follow the antler restriction.

Sorry it went that way, some people...I won't pay for a lease when public land is cheaper and you share it with the same d-bags. Better luck next time

I've tried my fair share of public land. It's hard hunting that public ground in East Tennessee. The up side to this lease is that it gives me a place to hunt in unit A, which helps with meat in case I have a bad bow season.

Did you know his stand was there? Does your lease not have an email chain so everyone communicates where they are going to be? Why did you hunt by someone else's stand?

Did you know his stand was there? Does your lease not have an email chain so everyone communicates where they are going to be? Why did you hunt by someone else's stand?

The lease proprietor told me it was his stand and that I had permission to hunt it. I wasn't in it because I wasn't exactly sure which direction the deer would come from but up on the ridge I could still hunt it. No, the lease doesn't have any form of communication with other members. Hell, I only know two people on the lease.

Yeah that's a problem if the lease doesn't have an email group or Facebook page. We've got an email group, Facebook page and a member directory. We also have a shared Google maps with all the stands and who owns them. Communication is key in our club so we don't have the problem you ran into today. That sucks, sounds like assumptions and miscommunications resulted in your tough start.

Yea, it's definitely making me reconsider this place altogether. I might try to move further west with a little more structure next year.

Sorry to hear that. I don't think I could've just stayed quiet in that situation. I almost joined that lease....kinda glad I didn't now.

It's paper company land. So it kind of is and kind of isn't paid public land. My lease dues pretty much buy me a key to the gates. And their rules are "if they're inside the gates, they're on the lease."

Heard a few shots that way this morning. The other leases around aren't as bad as that one it seems. Most everyone is semi local and I've known most of them for years. But yours in particular seems to draw the most knuckleheads. IMO you'd be better of joining one of these off eastland. Or going on into the gulf

One of those shots was me. I got up and left early and bumped two does out of an clear cut. I pulled the shot high and right over her back. But I agree, I'm honestly thinking about just going on out past Nashville or something like that.

Shoot, there's a better deer density here than back home. Not to mention, I never found the first acorn here or at home, so that makes it quite a bit harder.

Thats rough. My lease has a big map printed out with a bunch of nails in it. You hang your tag where your going to be (primarily). If someone is coming in we all have everyones numbers and we text people we are coming in.

My lease originally had 12 members for our 1400 acres. Guy managing got fed up with knuckleheads and left and gave to me. I immediately got rid of the two main trouble makers. And one guy left voluntarily when he heard we would have to increase dues. Left us with 8 people including me that get along great. We all communicate and all share. Not a single butt hurt phone call. One moved and left and we replaced him this year with someone we knew well. Sometimes a lease is worth every penny.

No I didn't. I doubt he would be dumb enough to leave it in there. Whoever took it is probably using it somewhere on the lease. It's just too big to check every tree though.
