On the last good weather morning that it looks like we are gonna have I overslept, I don't even remember my alarm going off but I know I set it before I went to bed, we just got set up at 8. Got about 1.5-2 hours to hunt.

Re: Bad mistake

I got up and started looking at google earth to decide which area to hunt, then realized I really didn't feel like going anywhere so I went back to bed. I think I'm going to only regret that but I did see deer on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and killed one on wed. The spot I had in mind for this morning wasn't good for the wind so I looked at some other spots and just didn't feel it. Maybe tomorrow evening if I get off work early enough.

Ah, you're getting older, young man!
:tu:
This is what happens sometimes when we get too much of a good thing!
Sometimes I can't figure which is harder on me: Too much hunting or not enough hunting!

All I know is I'm ready for deer season to be over this year, so I can "justify" (in my small one-track mind focused on deer hunting) doing some other things besides deer hunting!

Sounds like you NEEDED some sleep more than you needed to go hunting this morning? :)

Late season, it often works better for me to just forget about getting up early (I'm so tired of doing it), then wait for a little air to start circulating, and do some mid-morning/mid-day still-hunting in "stalking" a good afternoon stand. Don't even have to set that danged alarm!

Re: Bad mistake

Saw several in the first 20-30 minutes of light and then it went dead. Thought it was just going to be an early movement morning. In last 20 minutes have seen 6 does and 2 small bucks. Bucks are just feeding and seem to not have does on their mind. Dad is on other side of hill and has seen 2 good bucks, one following does and one chasing...

One of the young ones from this morning (not the best pic)...

Re: Bad mistake

I got bit by some sort of spider on the Catoosa Hunt last week and my foot is all swollen or else I would be out today. I may try and tough it out tomorrow.

Re: Bad mistake

It possibly has more to do with my hunting locations and my hunting styles (never mind that I "mix it up" quite a bit on how I hunt), but post-rut, I usually seem to see more deer between mid-morning and noon, or during the afternoon, than between dawn and mid-morning.

Anyone else experience this, better hunting in afternoons than mornings, post-rut?

I still go lots of mornings late season, sometimes it pays off, and always I prefer to kill a deer in a morning over an afternoon.

Re: Bad mistake

Or be in the woods for8.5 hours so far and not seen a thing...ooooh wait,it's still better than work

Wasn't feeling good but headed out anyway knowing it will all be over soon. I seen 9, all does but a very small 4 point. I could have busted the does but decided not to. Glad to be out in the woods

Re: Bad mistake

Nothing til 9:00 central. Then my buddy saw two, but couldn't get a shot.

After he text me that they were headed my way, I stood and turned that way. Then heard something down in the cedar thicket I was watching. A train of deer started coming through. At least eight. No horns. So, I picked out the biggest.

My dad also had seen a couple earlier.

My buddy did also see two bobcat kittens.
