First trip since end of October. Big girls have moved inshore, but water temps rose from low 50s last week to 69 yesterday, so I figured they would be scattered... and they were...

Took me about 4 hours to finally put a pattern together, but once I did, the catching was slow but steady. Trout were extremely aggressive, but too scattered to cover water fast with a jig, so I ended up going straight topwater even in the stretches of 10ft to 12ft depths since the water was so clear and all day fog kept the sun away.

Ended up with 30 something total, including this 22.5in gator (released). Kept 5 for supper today in the 16 to 17.5in range. Most came from 5 to 6ft water

Normally I catch about 1 out of 4 that blow up on topwater, but these fish were so aggressive I ended up landing about 60% of my blowups. It was not fast, nor furious action, probably 1 trout for every 50 yards of bayou covered, and no schools of fish, but it sure was nice to be back in the marsh again.

Picked up a couple reds as bycatch, but I really wanted to focus on trout yesterday.

Love your marsh posts

Should have mentioned the biting gnats... gosh, they were awful with the high temps and dead calm winds early. Skin so Soft with insect repellant keeps them from landing and biting any exposed skin that has it on it, but they were landing by the thousands on my pants and i somehow got bitten a few times through the thin fabric.

The only thing that works on the No-See-Ums / knats/ little biting bastards ….. just spray it on your hat or clothes.

Yep. I hate those terrible bastards

Will it damage/ melt the high tech synthetic fabrics of modern cooling clothing?
Not yet and I've bought just about every brand. It will stay on the clothing until you wash it off. Has a vanilla overtone to my nose but my wife does not like it! It sits outside until I wear it again or wash it.

I spray my hat and around my neck especially….. good luck.

Have you tried it around chiggers?

I pulled it up...

Looks like citronella, peppermint, and rosemary oil emulsolate in a mineral oil and alcohol base with some vanilla extract..

Im thinking of making my own and trying it.

Ill use it on my clothes, and prob stick with the skin so soft with sunscreen on my face and hands for dual purpose action

Be sure to buy top quality essential oils. I recommend Aromatics International I used to be a Certified Aromatherapist and can attest to the quality of this company's oils. They are one of the best in the market.
