2 out of 3 of us took bears last week...3rd guy was more interested in making sure his wife tagged out on her first bear ever so he sat with her most of the time...she was a little nervous..
We had to start out by getting our provisions for the week...so we started out early monday morning and headed out on the boat
we caught some junk in the traps before we started haulin in the good stuff
it was my job to band the lobster
so after a morning of hauling gear out of the water we went back to camp with a knapsack full of lobster to boil up.
now its time to hunt.....The first night I sat in a stand and saw 12 different bears. When it was time to get down I had a bear on each side of my tree within 5 yards so I text my buddy fred and told him to sit in truck and not walk in and get me until I sent word so we didnt disturb the bears. Two of the bears were very nice shooters but their hair was all rubbed up and didnt look very good. Which Was the case on 90% of the bears I saw...
My buddy and his wife didnt see a bear the first evening so I opted to give her my stand so she could at least see bears if she didnt get a chance to take one....The next nite She watched several bears and had a blast. We took a whole frozen turkey, like you buy at thanksgiving to cook and tied it to a tree....she said that a bear came and grabbed it and took off running with it until the rope got taut and jerked the turkey out of its paws....she said a fight ensued between to bears over the fumbled turkey!! the next nite on that same stand, she took a nice dried up sow...we found it the next morning about 100 yards from the stand piled up...she put a good shot on it and it was a great first bear for her!!

Well the next nite I sat in a stand way down in a hollar out of the wind which was wreaking havoc on us for the first few days....about 7 pm I caught a climpse of bear legs pacing back and forth in the brush about 20 yards behind the bait....he finally made his way into the bait and I wasnt gonna shoot him, i was gonna hold out. He got real comfortable at the buckets and when he stood up I could plainly see a great white blaze (V) on his chest...Ive taken about every color phase of bear that Ive wanted except for a bear with a white blaze. I decided that if he offered me a shot I would take him...He stood up and put head in the bucket and I drew back, settled in good form and found the spot. He pulled his head out of the bucket again with a piece of bread in his mouth and I touched my release...I watched my fletching disappear into a sea of black fur and reappear on the ground on the other of this magnificant animal. He flipped buckets and lids getting the heck outta dodge and crashed through the bruck...30 seconds later I heard the short burst of 3 death moans.....
I had video'd the entire episode with my phone so I sat down and watched it a few times to be sure the shot was good....We found my bear 35 yards from the bait the next morning....He isnt a monster by any means, but he is my trophy blaze bear...
