Avid selfbow shooters

Looking to build a selfbow this year looking for some advice

Do you find you shoot as good with a self bow as with a production bow?

I been talking to a well know self bow shooter and he says at Hunting distances 20 yards, he feels there's no significant difference in performance with a quality made selfbow

I've built and shot selfbows since 1995. I do love them, but personally, I don't shoot them nearly as well as a glass laminated centershot recurve or longbow. My comfortable range on deer with a selfbow, when I was shooting my best, was around twenty yards.

I've decided this year to go back to my recurves simply because I don't practice as often as I used to. For me to shoot a selfbow well, I need constant practice. Another factor could be that I was building so many that I never devoted enough time to getting used to one bow. Too much scraping, not enough shooting. I'm sure if I stuck with one it'd be better.

I want to build a few but I doubt I'll be able to devote enough time to get any good at it.
