atv spreader

I just ordered a Buyer's brand atv spreader from tractor supply, I was checking out my honda 05 rancher and didn't find an electrical hook-up. Should I just get alligator clips and connect to the battery? Also do you think it's ok to put fertilizer in it?

Well I think I just found the connector, right where I was'nt looking. It looks like a lighter plug-in just above the left fender.

I have another battery on the front for the spreader and sprayer

Just wash it good and put a light coat of oil on any metal parts that fertilizer may have contacted.
