Anyway, I did get it out over the weekend. Here's my thoughts. It's okay. Great review huh?
Like I said, fit and finish are good. Very easy to install with the supplied bolt on adaptor. It "looks" good on the machine as far as size, location, etc.
As for performance, well, I guess there's no magic way to "silence" an atv. So what you get is a reduction. How much? Well, unscientifically you get "some." Sorry to be vague but it's kinda hard to describe it. When you're sitting on the machine it really sounds about the same. Standing right behind it you can tell that it's running a little quieter but not really that much quieter. The difference comes as you move away from the machine. From 40 yards it sounds like it's maybe 80 yards away. The further away you move the rate of the noise reduction seems to increase. Does this make sense?
It seems to me the sound is muffled and then channeled straight down with this design. I think this causes the sound "sphere" around the machine to dissipate much faster. So when you're riding it you don't really hear much of a difference, but someone that's a few hundred yards away might really have a hard time picking you up. In a few weeks I'll be able to run it side by side with another grizz and also have somebody run mine while I'm on stand or at camp.
Quick summary, I guess I would say that it reduces the sound factor by about half so that the machine sounds farther away than it really is. It's not going to dazzle you simply because the rider is going to experience the least amount of reduction. But that doesn't mean it's not doing it's job which is sound reduction experienced by everyone else.
I will revist this thread with the thoughts of my huntin buds and what they think about it. Also side by side compare with the stock grizz. Hope this helps.
