Black Friday, 2014.
That was the first deer I got - a 7-pt on public land - some of you may remember when it happened.
Three years later and not a shot fired toward another deer, and about ready to hang it up and sell all my gear.
Then, around 9:50a today, about 30 degrees, i happen to look over at what I'm assuming is another squirrel and see this little youngster grazing and moseying by.
Normally, I'd wait to harvest until they're older but my friend asked me to get rid of some deer on his property because they were eating all his fruit trees.
That and it's been so long since I had a shot at one, empty freezer, and all - I went ahead and took it.
It had been so long since I fired this rifle, I'd forgotten just how powerful it was!
She took off, hopped over a fence, circled around toward me, and crashed quite literally at my feet (about 8 feet from the bottom rung of my ladder stand).
Unfortunately, as it turned out, my shot was low and the poor thing was suffering, so I put another round in her spine.
Funny, about 30 mins later, some hound dogs in the area made mournful sounding howls - must be out of respect.
I'll get a better pic posted soon
