I planted my plots on September 12 and 13. I got a couple of really good rains and they looked great until the army worms hit. I knew a couple of plots were hit because I had cell cams on them, but I was hoping maybe the worms didn't get all of my 15 acres of plots. I was able to make it down last weekend, and it was pretty much bare dirt on all my plots.
Now I'm just waiting on rain to replant

Yes, between the droughts and army worms, I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it myself.
I've been planting plots for over 25 years, and I've only been hit by army worms one other time, and they only got one plot then.
With no acorns at my place, and replanting this late, I don't believe my plots will be able to withstand the browse pressure.
 
Man, so sorry to see that RS. I feel really lucky. As of last Friday, no Army Worms at my place. But they wiped me out two years ago.

Unfortunately, I don't see any rains in the 15-day forecast. Well, the GFS always has something out at 14 to 15 days, but those rain chances evaporate once we get around 10 days out.
 
Seems like the timely worms and drought caught quite a few of us this year. Add injury to insult I had to take a young buck last weekend that seemed to in the late stages of CWD.
 
Hardeman. It was pretty rough. Could see every rib, the hip bones were poking out so much i initially thought it had a huge tumor or was hit by a car, drooling a lot, covered in lesions, and clearly had mentally lost it. Walked up to a tree 20 yards in front of me, and just stood there from 7am to 9 am without moving even other deer blowing at it, me snort wheezing at it, grunting at it, and every breathe it took made a little grunt like he was having trouble breathing. It failed to shed the velvet on its antlers and those looked like they were rotting on his head. Probably weighed about 90 pounds on the hoof.
 
I'm beginning to think Army Worms worked over some of my plots. Was out checking cams today and noticed several plots that had a decent stand of wheat a couple of weeks ago no longer do. Yet our smallest and most isolated plot still had a good stand. So it can't just be the drought. Either a plot had a good stand or none at all. That sounds like the work of Army Worms.
 
I've battled both (worms and drought) and decided not to plant this year. I could be wrong, but it seems like my 5 acres of yard got hit by them twice this year. Is that even possible?
