The thread about missing the shot due to string slap got me to wondering about arm guards and compression sleeves. My bow has a string stopper and so far I've never had any problems with bulky clothing interfering with my shooting. But, most of the time I make it out during bow season, it's not too cold and I'm not wearing my bulkiest clothing. Thinking I might pick some sort of guard up just in case I find myself in the tree with the bow while wearing a bulky jacket. Who all uses some sort of guard to keep their sleeve back and what kind do you use?

if i put on a heavy coat i just slap 2 rubber bands on over it...easy to do and carry and super cheap to get extras.

depends on your value of cheaper.. i can get a bag of 200 rubber bands with good width for $1-$2.

the sleeves are pretty inexpensive at $5-$7 but i lose it or leave it in the truck by mistake. I just took bands instead...just easier for me to keep up with is all.

prior to that i just took 2 wool socks and cut them in half then sewed the to parts with the elastic together. Pretty much the same thing as the realtree one.

After my slap shot miss due to a bulky jacket, my first thing to do is practice in my jacket and then I will probably "borrow" some thick rubberbands from my work,,,, Mr. Cheapo here. I might try the sock thing though, sounds like a good idea as well.

Ive never used one unless Im wearing a thick coat. IT has to be in the teens for me to bust it out.

I always where one. Can not think of the last time that I hit my arm but now it just feels weird shooting without it. As much money has I have in my bow, arrows, broadhead, stand, cloths and gas to get to my hunting spot spending $8 for an arm guard is not that big a deal

That's what I was thinking. I'd rather have it on and not need it than risk it.

Where are the compression sleeves available for $8?

My oldest daughter used to play soccer and I stole a pair of those really long socks they wear and cut the top off of it and it works great.

Same here . I keep my draw length short enough to allow enough bend in the elbow , so string slap is not an issue unless I wear a very heavy jacket .

I have one with me at all times. I shoot right at my correct draw...maybe .5 in short. But I don't bend my arm...I rotate it at the elbow. Gains me at least an inch of string clearance. Compression sleves are hot!

my only issue with all the arm guards and all the other stuff for archery is FOR ME it starts to get crazy...by that i mean for archery i end up with WAY TO MUCH STUFF TO CARRY IN...so I started eliminating things from my bag to carry in and set up.

for some reason i got to the point were it seemed like i was carrying all of Dicks Sporting Goods dept with me to the stand. Had nothing to do with weight more with just to much stuff to remember and put on once in the tree.

a handful of rubber bands just made it easier on my because i could use them for multiple things as well as just put them in a small pocked and not worry about them.

as others stated though i never use any of it unless i put on a big coat which is not very often during archery season.
