AR style .22's

I have got the itch for a .22lr in one of the AR platforms but I cant make my mind up which one I want. I have never shot one so I dont really know which one to go for or stay away from. I like the looks of all of the ones I have seen but I want reliability but not break the bank on just a plinker. The Mossberg Tactical .22 is real cheap and looks good. The S&W M&P 15-22 is a real good looking gun as is the Colt. If anyone has one of any of these I could use some feedback please. And I know someone is going to say I should just buy an AR lower and get the .22 upper but I cant really afford a real deal AR setup. It did cross my mind though.

one of my boys has the M&P15 in 5.45 and he loves it.

I bought one of the Mossbergs. Just as a plinker, adjustable stock, my wife can shoot it, my 6 yr old can hold it and ALMOST fits her, won't be long.
I just use it purely for fun, shooting cans, etc. For what it is, I like it.

For $200, I figured it would be good to have them learn on. So far, it has done what I got it for, but don't buy it expecting a match grade gun! It does shoot good, & pretty accurate but it's still just a $200 gun. That said, for a cheap gun, it is fun!

Buddy of mine has put thousands of rounds through the smith with no problems.

Have a Smith and do like it but like the Colts and a another one that can't think of the name of it right now better. These are more like the AR-15 than the S&W MP22.

Only buy the Smith. The rest are junk. The Colt isn't made by Colt and the Mossberg is their semi-auto (722 I think) encased in a fake ARish plastic case. The best is to get a real AR then get a .22 conversion.

for my use a 22 has to shoot .250 groups at 25 yards,,

The one I couldn't recall is/was the M-22 by Chippa Firearms. I didn't see it listed on there site so it is either new or they dropped it is shown in a 2010 catalog I picked up a while back.
