So then why really would you need to move the front sight if you can move the rear sight up and down and side to side?

The small apeture can be set to hit from 300 meters to 800 meters (600m on the carbine sights)and is marked with ranges on the rear sight elevation drum. You set the rear drum on 3 and then use the front sight adjustments to zero it in at 300m (zero it a 25m with the rear sight one click up from 3 and it should be on again at 300 with it set on 3). Then you never need to touch the front sight again, just dial in the range using the rear sight elevation drum and you should be able to hit anything out to 800m on the A2 rifle and 600 on the carbines.
