My wife's grandfather bought an AR and he wants to get a red dot sight but wants crosshairs or a permanent dot that is fixed as well. We wants the ability to illuminate the crosshairs but have the ability to use the sight if the batteries and dead and he doesn't have batteries available.
Does anyone know of anything under $150 that would work decent on an AR?

Thank you

I tried to go the red dot route and quite frankly did a pretty bad job.

None of the affordable red dot solutions are of much use in a target or varmint environment. The dot is too large and at a distance diffuses. The dot can cover the entire front quarter of a deer depending upon his distance from you.

This is why the companies selling the very expensive ones are still in business. The cheap alternatives are pretty unsatisfactory.
