I have a carbine,,what I would like to have is an AR15 configured like the original Colt SP1`s with the full non adjustable stock and 7 twist 20" bbl and the triangular looking handguard,,oh and National Match sights would be nice also,,

my dad has a colt preban that fits in a brief case type case. Not sure of the model but last I remembered if you loaded the magazine full it would jam on first shot. Rest went smooth. May possibly be the my first AR some day

This might be an ignorant question/statement, but it seems to me that a Pre-Ban is nothing but an old AR-15??????

My guess is that you could build a new one for half the price that is twice as good.

yeah a new parts build to Match Target HBar specs would be something I would like to have,,I dont want to spend a grand extra just to get the Colt stamped lower but I would want the same barrel weight and stock and handguard .

My Son shot his AR with open sights for first time in Basic Training last week. Took him one shot group to get used to open sights and second time he was done. First in entire company.

Personally, if an AR doesn't come with a selector switch they ain't much use in my view.

get in a pack of coyotes or wild hogs and you might change your mind,,,the semi auto AR15 is a very effective weapon when shots are close and targets are moving.

Ah, so you're familiar with the AR platform. It's odd to me that you can't see any advantages of it beyond providing suppressive fire and making a mess of a close-range assailant

I know, so many myths.
I used to shoot NRA Service rifle with an open sighted A2. The final leg was 600 yards. (Think back to that "open sighted" part.)
They can be incredibly accurate and versatile rifles.

I shot expert with my M14. Trained for 2 full days with the AR, the sights are so much different, I got the hang of it about lunch time day 1. before Day 1 ended i was hitting the pop up targets at all distances.


The AR has some great characteristics-rate of fire, accuracy, ammo & rifle weigh a lot less than the M14 and same ammo count. I used to carry about 3 times the standard issue AR ammo for perimeter guard duty. The downside is grit, which the rifle does not like at all.

We have glass for our AR and a red dot but I kept telling my kids you need to learn how to use open sights and to shoot with both eyes open. We spent quite some time at the range...Paid off so far for my oldest-by-7-minutes Son.

Don't worry, I have a lot of respect for the AR and what it can do.

AR's tend to eat a lot. I generally load 500 at a time using 25 gr of H335.
