I didnt want to jack a thread. I just ordered a PSA M$ rifle kit with a 1:7 twist. I have done some reading but so many options out there I don't know where to start.

Ammo suggestions for plinking and hunting?

Also I have to get a lower receiver. Would you just get a PSA out the door for $110, or a new armalite for $175 from private party? Is there any difference really?

1:7 twist allows you to shoot heavier ammo (60+grains). As far as a lower unit, it really doesn't matter in my opinion. I actually built my own lower. Depending on what you're using the rifle for will play into what stock you choose.

Thats where I have been reading. Was afraid to post. Those guys are harsh on newbies!

You should see what the "elite operators" on M4Carbine.net have to say...

I have had good luck out of XM193 and AE223 for target shooting. I've never hunted with an AR, so I have no advice there.

I've been on there since 2001 and still get some harsh remarks. You always get some smarta** who thinks he knows it all, give it right back to him.

Since you have a PSA kit I would go with a PSA lower.

Many people will say you want a 1:9 twist for a bullet that light. If you're just plinking for fun, you probably won't notice a big difference. If you're trying to shoot tight groups at hundreds of yards, you probably want a heavier bullet.
 
Picked up my psa lower today! Got 100 rounds on pmc penetrator soft point 62gr. And a pmag ordered. DANG HURRY UP RIFLE KIT.

With the leap in processes and advancements in jacket design and bonding, you should have no problems shooting a 53gn bullet out of your 1x7 barrel. I shoot that exact bullet out of both 1x7 and 1x8 with sub MOA accuracy. I have tested that bullet in several different workup loads out to 400yds with 1MOA accuracy!

The point in THAT 53gn bullet is the ballistic coefficiency is .290. That bullet, if pushed fast enough, will have the same exterior ballistics as many of it's 65gn counterparts. The added bonus here is the ballistic tip. Hornady loads that bullet with Superformance powder and pushes it to 3465fps. Which equates to it still having 1000+lbs. of knock down power at 150+yds.
