My 11 yr old nephew has started showing interest in hunting. We were not able to get his hunter safety course completed this summer. What licenses does he need in addition to the apprentice license to hunt small game? And probably deer this winter.

Thanks

The Apprentice License is merely a one year exemption from the hunter education requirements. It also requires that an adult 21 yr. old or older who meets the hunter education requirements is ALWAYS in position to take immediate control of the weapon for someone hunting under the AL.

He does not need any LICENSE to hunt until he reaches the age of 13. He will need the type 94 PERMIT to participate in nonquota big game hunts on a WMA or to participate in the Special Season Antlerless hunts (doe hunts during the gun season).

As long as he is accompanied by an adult who has the proper WMA small game permit, he is not required to have that permit to hunt small game on a WMA.
