If you have a choice between Dixie Red, Jona Gold, Red and Yellow Delicious or McIntosh, which do you choose for deer. Also, are sugar tyme crab apple any good?
 
Sugar Tyme is an ornamental crab. They do have fruit but its very small, not something a deer is really going to go after.
As for the apples, well thats up to you, none of those are very good choices for wildlife.
 
Thanks. I just bought my nursery out of pears, chinese chestnuts,sawtooth oak, and Arkansas Black. The trees I had questioned about were all that were left. Didn't know if I needed them too.LOL

Arkansas Black requires a pollinator to bear fruit. I have 2 of them to plant this fall that I got from Turner and Sons Nursery in McMinnville along with a Granny Smith and Golden Delicious which are great pollinators for this variety. If you plant your Arkansas Black by itself, you will never get fruit.
