Apple tree question

I have a apple tree that is several years old 8-10. It is about 10 ft or so, not huge but proabably a 4 in caliper. My question is, as long as i have had this tree it has NEVER bloomed! Any suggestions? It is not in full sun, it gets full sun from about 12-5pm or so. Would that be it? Its in a food plot in the woods.

Any words of wisdom?

i almost have the same problem. i get a few blums but no fruit.

That might be the problem, i am not sure the variety. and as far as i know there isnt another one around for a hundred acres or so. It would still bloom though right? even if it isnt getting pollinated it will still bloom. right?

I would think so,see if you can get it some more sun somehiow,and get another apple tree in there with it

i grabbed 2 more apple trees and crab apples to plant this fall. about 200yds away or so,

When I picked up 5 apple trees a few months ago, I told the guy that I was planning on putting them in a couple different locations. He told me that it would be best if they were within 10 acres or about 100 yards apart (Basically saying, dont put one out by itself stranded from the others). I think it was the Yellow Delicious that he said was alot more adaptable and could withstand greater distances and was less "controversial" between different breeds....(Red Delicious, Granny White, etc...) Cant remember...

But I really cant answer your question either. I am no expert. Just letting you know what I was told....from what I remember. Hopefully steven will be able to get you more info.

Well I asked this on the QDMA forum as there are alot of knowledgeable apple folks over there but havent gotten alot fo replys. I asked a local nursery and he seems to think it is a pollination issue. He said you should also give it some fairly agressive pruning when it goes dormant in order to stimulate flowering. Couple that with another apple tree or two and hopefully it will flower. Just make sure to plant a good pollinator apple tree or crabapple, no triploid varieties as they wont cross-pollinate.

WILL DO! i have a few crabapples i am goign to plant this fall with a few more apples, i am noticing that some have rust though... is it still worth planting them?

I really wouldnt want to introduce cedar apple rust (if thats what you mean) into an area unless that area already has it. Either way an infected tree doesnt stand a good chance. I cant preach enough about disease resistant varieties, Im guilty of not getting them myself but from here on out it will be all disease resistant nursery varieties or my own grafts.

I am striking out on all fronts.... I have several crab apples that i have potted to plant this fall. most of them have rust. should i just scrap them?

Steven is right about the fall pruning. It will stimulate new growth. Lack of sun will also cause poor blossoms.
Rust and be rough if left uncontrolled. It can be handled the proper spray program.
