Apple tree question.

Has anyone heard of a Horse Apple tree? Its not a Hedge Apple. I bought some the other day. Looks similar to other apple trees and is said to have large apples that that produce late in the year and hang for a long time. Supposedly it is a self pollinator and is a very old variety.

Yep thats one of the most common apples you'll find around old home places in my area.

It would be a good tree to get some cuttings off of.If you are interested in Propagateing Apple Trees.It is one of the diease resistant types brought over planted by early settlers.Very hardy and low maintence.

Moss garden center at Nonaville and Lebanon rd in Mt Juliet has about 20 fruit trees marked half off,if anyone is looking

smstone22 can you tell me anything about them. What time can i expect them to put fruit on? The place I got them wasn't real sure about them. Do they in deed self pollinate? Thanks

All of them Ive seen around here start dropping around first of August, and will be nearly gone by the end of September. Those are almost always on Standard rootstock. That can vary depending upon your source. They do self pollinate, but your still better off with a good pollinator in proximity to the trees.
