I love composting. I personally prefer veggie matter over animal matter, so I stick to leaves, grass cuttings and table scraps. Basically, I grab about 40 bags of leaves from my yard and the neighbors. I have also asked the neighbors' landscapers to leave me the bagged grass clippings in spring and fall, maybe 8 bags of grass.
I store all this bagged stuff under a big boat cover/tarp and add to the compost piles as needed throughout the season. I have three bins, all in progress at all times. I made them for free from wooden pallets. I use about 1/3 for a cool season garden and the rest for a warm season garden.
It can be work, but my garden is infinitely better since I've started feeding my veggies. Give it a try.
