We don't have any reservations made yet, but the current plan is to head to the beach with my wife and 2 kiddos during mid-July (probably for one week).

Is anyone going to be in the area during that time that might consider going in with me on a fishing charter? I will likely be by myself, unless it's an in-shore trip and my son MIGHT be able to go.

Just looking for options. I also have contacts with a "guide" that teaches surf/pier fishing that I might look into as well. I've learned a lot, but I'm still a newbie who would enjoy additional input.

It would be awesome if we could get a TNDEER group charter going :)

Give me a call sometime and I can give you the skinny on surf fishing, where to go, what to use, etc. I will pm my phone number.

lots of great info there.

if the guide you are talking about is david thornton, you won't meet a nicer guy. and a great fisherman/guide.
we went last july with plans for a charter but we were having so much fun on the pier that we cancelled those plans. we're going in june this year.

I've seen you on there stik. Great site. I would love to go down there for a fishing but I'm going twice in June.

Stik - yes, that's him.

I'm a member on the site (saw a post of yours recently about living in TN and knew it must be you), but I lurk about 99% of the time without posting. Virtually every question I can ever think to ask has already been asked, so I typically just search the threads and do "research".

I also went to the pier last year in June and really enjoyed it. Our family went with another and rented a house together. The other dad and I liked it so much that we started talking about going back, but they are going with their family in June, and we can't go until July.

I had a lot of fun bringing a cast net and learning how to fish for speckled trout a bit in Little Lagoon. We didn't catch a ton, but it was validating to do something right by yourself.

Diehard - thanks man!

Just go the gulf state pier. Walk to the end. Watch the local old guys and go get the lure or rig and do what they do!!!

That's what I did last time (along with reading advice on the GS Pier forum). It's still hard to beat an off-shore trip if you can do one affordably.
