When ever I draw a tag. I just picked up 600 acres today. Going to look at it in a couple weeks. From what the landowner is telling me it should be prime. Are you bow or gun hunting?

Hunted and guided there for many years. This I can tell you. They have been hammered by ehd and killing too many does. Population is down from a little to severely across the state. Might be a good time to consider other states.

Much of the Midwest, IL for example is suffering from the same thing. If going with an outfitter, be sure and do a ton of homework before booking. The topic is under discussion on many forums but probably best discussion on Bowsite. I'd check that out.

Midwest whitetail has a segment on that. Bill Winke expects it to be 3-4 years before it's back to what it was in the early to mid 2000's

Not going with a outfitter, crazy story how I got access to this tract of land.

Here is what I get after talking with five guys in different areas of IA.

Wait a couple years. There are isolated pockets that have plenty of deer but overall, in almost all areas, it is a bad situation. Zones 4&6 seem to be the hardest hit but all zones are in trouble right now.

Hunted there 2 years ago, and have another booked for this fall. May very well reconsider & push it back a year or two...
