Anyone here rebuild their carburetor?

I need to rebuild my carburetor on my '99 Honda Foreman 450ES. I've never done that type of work before, but I'm pretty handy with tools, and have a lot of basic general mechanical knowledge. I've also got a Haynes manual on my Honda. Is this something that an average guy can do without too much difficulty, or should I take it to Honda and pay them?

Thats what I was going to suggest that you get a manual. I have done some work on my atvs over these years, they sure are handy!

do a search on the net for help also.
I found some help on hubby's tractor that the parts/long time tractor seller/ couldn't answer by finding a website with a forum for tractor owners discussing mechanical problems.

oh and one last tibit....there are NO left over parts when you rebuild.

go to highlifter.com and they will walk you right through it. The single cylinder carbs are not a big deal at all to work on. Just let them walk you through it and you will be fine. On a dirtbike carb I can usually change the jets in a 2 stroke in about 10 minutes and taking my time. Other thing you can do is remove the carb and take it to an independent dealer and have them rebuild it. Usually the indy's labor prices are much better than the dealers.

I did this for about 7 years in the early 80's. Biggest thing to watch out for is the o rings . Go to Randakks cycle on the net and boil them like the article on Goldwing carbs. If you put em in carb cleaner and leave in one of the o rings you be had. They are easy to do , it is just attention to detail.
