Guy at work said his dad was cleaning crappie and was first cutting them open and pulling out the eggs.

He then battered and deep fried them along with the fillets.

He said the egg "sack" can't be busted open and the eggs need to be "real yellow" and then just fry them up.

He said you would throw the fillets away and eat just the eggs, they are that good.

Never heard of it before???
Has anyone ?
 
Mullet roe is popular (mostly with the old folks) down on the coast.

...As a side note i got in trouble as a kid when I scared the crap out of my mom. I put a roe on my finger and came running into the house acting like I had a severe finger injury. :)

My mom use to save them and fry them up....that was 40 or 50 years ago. I remember eating them but don't remember anything special about the taste.
