Anyone ever try..

sugar beets. I read an article in one of the magazines I get and it said that a good food plot plant was sugar beets. I have never seen that mentioned on here and I thought I would just toss it out there for a good debate...

Sure havent, have heard good things though. I try to experiment with a new thing or two a year. This year was radishes and I was impressed with them. Seems each year I get simpler and simpler on food plots though. Maybe somebody will have planted sugar beets

steven, why did you like the radishes?

Never tried beets either but im sure deer would eat them

The radishes grew a really full head of leaves, more so than Ive been able to get DER and turnips to do in my soil. Deer left them alone and let them to get a pretty good size then just ate the heck out of them after several good frosts. The radish root part grew a deep taproot straight down which should help to loosen my soil up.

I think sugar beets may be more of a northern species,at least will do better there
