I'm trying to plan a trip for me and my dad to Alaska to fish for halibut and was hoping to get some advice from someone that knows the in's & out's of it or has done it before. If anyone could help out I would appreciate it
 
I have been there and fished for halibut but as far as the ins and outs I can't be much help. I was a guest of my cousin at his place on Kodiak and he had all the gear, boat, and such.

I have been there several times. I would suggest Fishing with Tony Arsenut out of Homer. Sorry I can't locate his phone number. I have fished 2 other boats but, prefer Tony. Best trip my daughter and my 4 fish weighed 331 lb. His boat is a 6 pack. Thre are bigger boats that carry more prople but, I prefer fishing with no more then 6.

You can no longer bring the fish back on the plane with you. You have to have it quick frozen and shipped.

Unlike our fish here that fillet out boneless about 33 percent, the halibut have small head and stomach for their size and will fillet out 66 percent boneless.
 
When did they change the rule on checking your fish?
I checked mine last September just as always.

66.1 percent if you dress out the cheeks. :grin:

Notice all the blood. We bled all the fish we kept. Supposed to make them better eating. I understand not everyone does not.
